SPECIAL COPY OF THE MARTYRS OF TOLPUDDLE BOOK

With the Tolpuddle Festival fast approaching this month, it is more than worth mentioning about a special copy of the 1934 TUC book THE BOOK OF THE MARTYRS OF TOLPUDDLE 1834-1934 which was published as part of the 100th anniversary of the Martyrs conviction and transportation.

The anniversary book was presented in Toronto, Ontario to s...even of the descendants of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, at a banquet, held during the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada Golden Jubilee Convention. Three of the descendants of James Brine attended the banquet, including his son, John T. and two grandsons who had been chosen by the family. The two grandsons were James S. Brine and J. Phillip Brine.

The photo shows the inscription inside the book awarded to Phillip Brine. It was signed by John Marchbank, General Secretary of the National Union of Railwaymen.
